About ICAI Doha Chapter
The Chapter in Doha was established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 44 overseas Chapters of the ICAI. The membership of the Chapter has grown steadily since its founding days and presently has over 400 members who hold key positions in various private and public companies and are actively involved in support and development of the accounting profession in Qatar. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members and to meet this objective, periodically organizes professional lectures and seminars. The Chapter is affiliated to Indian Business & Professional Council under the aegis of the Indian Embassy in Qatar. Doha Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India LLC (G) is registered under Qatar Financial Center (QFC) laws. The Chapter is the first professional membership body to be licensed in QFC. For two consecutive year’s Doha Chapter of ICAI has been awarded as the best overseas chapter under category II by ICAI for the year 2016 & 2017.
The day to day affairs of the Chapter are managed through its Constitution and by an elected eight-member executive committee headed by a Chairman. Successive Chairpersons and their executive committees have worked tirelessly to ensure the growth of the Chapter and the satisfaction of member’s professional needs. The highlight of the annual events calendar is the two days annual conference, presented each year by eminent personalities from different field of accounting, taxation and auditing. Also keenly awaited each year is the annual CA Cricket Fiesta, a fun day for the CA fraternity to enjoy with their families.
Apart from the distinction of being the first overseas Chapter of the ICAI, the Chapter also has the distinction of being the first overseas Chapter to elect a lady as Chairperson, when Ms Leena Dasani was elected Chairperson in 1999. First time in the history of the chapter, for the term 2018, the chairperson and vice-chairpersons were ladies.
From Dec. 2016, Doha has been approved by ICAI as a center for holding the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) and the ICAI Doha Chapter with the co-operation of the Indian Embassy conducts the CPT/Intermediate & Final exams for students aspiring to become Chartered Accountants.
The Doha Chapter aspires to evolve and grow as a professional body, advancing the cause and building up the profile of Indian Chartered Accountants in Qatar.
