The Chapter in Doha was established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 24 overseas Chapters of the ICAI. The membership of the Chapter has grown steadily since its founding days and presently has over 300 members who hold key positions in various private and public companies and are actively involved in support and development of the accounting profession in Qatar. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members and to meet this objective, periodically organizes professional lectures and seminars. The Chapter is affiliated to Indian Cultural Center under the aegis of Indian Embassy in Qatar.
The day to day affairs of the Chapter are managed through its Constitution and by an elected eight member executive committee headed by a Chairman. Successive Chairmen and their executive committees have worked tirelessly to ensure the growth of the Chapter and the satisfaction of member’s professional needs. The highlight of the annual events calendar is the Indian Budget Seminar, presented each year by an eminent personality in the field of accounting and taxation. Also keenly awaited each year is the annual CA Cricket Fiesta, a fun day for the CA fraternity to enjoy with their families.
Apart from the distinction of being the first overseas Chapter of the ICAI, the Chapter also has the distinction of being the first overseas Chapter to elect a lady as Chairperson, when Ms Leena Dasani was elected Chairperson in 1999.
From the year 2010, Doha has been approved by ICAI as a centre for holding the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), and ICAI Doha Chapter with the co-operation of the Indian Embassy conducts the CPT exam for students aspiring to become Chartered Accountants.
The Doha Chapter aspires to evolve and grow as a professional body, advancing the cause and building up the profile of Indian Chartered Accountants in Qatar.
